Over par: Hill Memorial Golf Tournament surpasses target

UNION GROVE  – A brick is colloquial for $100,000, a fitting term in this instance as Madison-based Kids to Love continues to build hope for foster children brick by brick.

Last Friday, more than 200 golfers, volunteers and support groups gathered at scenic Cherokee Ridge Country Club for the third annual Grant Hill Memorial Golf Tournament and surpassed the set by $3,000 with a total of $103,000 in sponsorships and donations.

The tournament is hosted by the Hill Family Foundation. Proceeds benefit the Kids to Love Grant Hill Trauma Team. The team treats youths battling depression from trauma and tragedy; treatment is conducted in the Smith Family Wellness Center, built in memory of Mark C. Smith.

The facility has broken ground at 140 Castle Drive in Madison with plans for additional expansion in support of high-quality mental health care for the community.

“Grant Hill wanted to provide healing, purpose, and peace to people who are suffering. Thanks to Brad and Stacey Hill, their son’s vision is happening,” said Lee Marshall, CEO and founder of the non-profit. “Construction of Kids to Love’s Smith Family Wellness Center is underway, and our Grant Hill Trauma Team is already working with clients every day to heal their trauma.

“The Hill Family Foundation is making a profound impact on our community, and we’re proud to work with them to make Grant’s vision a reality.”

Hill was a record-setting discus thrower in track and an All-American football lineman at Huntsville High School, where he graduated in 2013. He went on to play football for the University of Alabama where he started as a freshman, no small feat for the Crimson Tide. He also excelled in academics, was a devout follower of Christ, enjoyed the outdoors and played guitar.

Plans have already been made for the fourth annual Grant Hill Memorial Golf Tournament for June 7, 2025 at Cherokee Ridge. More details will be announced.

The KTL Center includes a warehouse for Christmas gifts, emergency assistance and school supplies; the group’s Child Placing Agency; and KTECH classrooms, computer labs and training spaces.

In last week’s tournament, AM Flight winner was the Army CCDC Aviation & Missile Center Team and the PM Flight winner was Fite Construction.
