HUNTSVILLE — The National Weather Service’s Huntsville office has a suggestion for Valentine’s Day – the gift of preparedness.

From gusty winds this afternoon into Wednesday morning to severe weather Wednesday night and Thursday to drenching rains Thursday night and cold temperatures Friday, the National Weather Service advises residents to take time to prepare today.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from 3 p.m. today to 6 a.m. Wednesday across the entire Tennessee Valley.

The forecast is calling for winds 20-30 mph and gusts up to 35-45 mph. This is the leading edge of a system that is expected to bring possible severe storms to the area Wednesday night. Strong to marginally severe storms are possible late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, the weather service said.

The storms will be mainly west of I-65 and can produce a tornado, gusty winds, small hail, and minor flooding.

This line will move through the Tennessee Valley Thursday afternoon and evening. The storms will bring about 1 to 2 inches of rain causing rivers, creeks, and streams to rise Thursday into Friday. There is a slight risk of flash flooding, especially Thursday.
