Pickin’ & Grillin’: South Huntsville’s Bluegrass & BBQ Festival is cookin’

HUNTSVILLE – It’s the most thumb-pickin’est, plectrum-pluckin’est, bow-strokin’est barbecue in North Alabama!

The fourth annual Bluegrass & BBQ Festival is cookin’ Saturday at Southside Park on Chaney Thompson Road in South Huntsville.

Sponsored by the South Huntsville Main Association and Madison County Commissioner Phil Riddick, the free, family-friendly festival features Three on a String, Another Town, and Justin & Angelica Branum from 2-8 p.m.

Three on a String is one of Alabama’s most beloved bands. The group has have been entertaining audiences in the United States and Canada for decades. With some 20,000 performances under their strings, the quartet enjoys sharing its craft with every new audience.

Another Town is an exciting bluegrass band of seasoned musicians. They have worked with some of the best bluegrass acts such Volume Five, Warrior River Boys, Hurricane Creek, and The Madison County Ramblers. Another Town is known for fresh, modern sound.

Justin Branum is a multifaceted musician from the Nashville area. He plays fiddle, violin, viola, cello, mandolin, guitar, and bass. Branum has won the Grand Master Fiddler Contest, National Fiddle Contest, Tennessee State Fiddle Championship, Tennessee State Mandolin Championship, and the Texas State Fiddle Championship.

He has played with Son Volt, Johnny Bush, Pokey LaFarge, Bobby Flores, Lee Ann Womack, Roland White and Marty Haggard. He is also a frequent guest at the Grand Ole Opry and he and his wife Angelica currently tour together.

The festival also offers a stroll along the Aldridge Creek Greenway or a walk with Fido through the dog park. The park features a playground for the kids, a disc golf course and an archery area.

Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs and are encouraged to arrive hungry because there will be food trucks on site.
