MADISON – In June 2021, during the groundbreaking for several restaurants at Town Madison, Deepen Patel, partner and CEO of Power Brands Hospitality Group, teased the group’s newest passion project – an original concept called Prohibition.
It would be a modern speakeasy with a rooftop bar and chef-driven menu.
After months-long delays due to the pandemic and supply chain issues, Prohibition celebrated its official grand opening Tuesday at 100 Moon Shot Drive.
Madison Mayor Paul Finley praised the distinctive dining concept and what it means to Town Madison.
“We have been wanting and encouraging more restaurants and businesses of quality to join us at Town Madison,” Finley said. “Prohibition is something high level and unique. Not just at Town Madison but in the city of Madison and there is a ton of excitement for it.
“The second reason we are excited to be celebrating your opening today is that it allows us to stretch the new Madison entertainment district from Zierdt Road, all the way to Toyota Field and all the events that will happen there.
“It is the start of so much more to come.”
According to Tyler Berger, the general manager, Prohibition takes a lot of old school ideas, throwback décor and even an old-world method of cooking, and gives it a modern twist to create a unique feel with worldly inspiration.
“We use a smoker to cook all of our meats very slowly, much different from barbecue,” he said. “Smoking is a means for fully cooking meats while preserving the flavor and has been used worldwide for centuries.
“You will also find a lot of international influences at Prohibition including Asian, Mexican, Peruvian and American; so there is something for everybody that comes in.”
Downstairs, Prohibition sparkles with glass and brass fittings, emoting a mellow and laid-back atmosphere appropriate for family dining with the kids, or a date night.
Upstairs has more of a late night feel, with a larger bar and completely open where every table has a 360-degree view.
It also has retractable walls and heaters for cold and rainy days and nights, so it is comfortable all year-round.
“We are very excited about being a part of the growing Town Madison community and the entertainment district where a lot of fun and exciting things are coming our way,” said Berger.
He also said there will be a brunch menu after the first of the year.
Some of the most popular dishes so far are ginger scallion noodles, the pork belly and cauliflower bowl, and brisket sandwiches.
“We are even elevating basic menu items like the Prohibition burger made with short rib and brisket,” said Berger. “We are taking that extra step on common dishes to provide a good quality product that is different from what you will find anywhere else.”
Other items on the menu include Korean ssams, which is meat wrapped in green leafy vegetables, the Gypsy Dog Chicken sandwich, and marinated BBQ Tofu Bahn Mi.
From the cocktail bar, you will find wine, beer and specialty concoctions such as a bourbon margarita, Giggle Water made with tequila, a French 75 made with gin, and Spring Time on the Moon … you will just have to take a lunar lander and try it for yourself.
Prohibition is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday; and 11 a.m.- 9 p.m. Sunday.
“We are so excited to add Prohibition to our collection of family restaurants here at Town Madison,” said Michelle Epling, executive director of the Madison Chamber of Commerce.
