Red Bay Founder’s Fest set for Sept. 24

RED BAY — Red Bay presents its annual Founder’s Fest next month and everyone is invited to the northwest Alabama town for a day of free family fun. Situated under the shade trees of Bay Tree Park, the one-day tribute to the town’s heritage offers contests, arts and crafts, sidewalk sales and live music.

The family-friendly event gets underway Sept. 24 at 8:30 a.m. with the King and Queen’s Train Ride. The event features the winners of the annual beauty pageant, which will be Sept. 18 at Red Bay High School.

At 9 a.m., live music cranks up and festival-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets and enjoy the sounds. The popular fried-pie contest will have winners for the best tasting, most unusual and best of show for the top pastry. There will also be quilt, coloring and photography contests.

The Red Bay Museum will be open for tours and Weatherford Library will host a book sale and entries for the quilt, photo and coloring contests on will be displayed.

Visitors can step back in time at the antique car-truck-motorcycle-tractor show. Merchants will offer sidewalk sales, specials and door prizes throughout the day.

Of course, you can’t have a festival without food and there will be something for everyone’s taste.

And, as a special feature, prizes will be awarded to the largest family, longest distance traveled to the event, and youngest and oldest attendees.

Bay Tree Park is between 2nd and 3rd streets, along 4th Avenue SE in downtown Red Bay. Festival hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.

For more information on the festival or to register as a vendor, contact Jennifer Garrett at Red Bay City Hall at (256) 356-4473 ext. 3.
