As the Christina Chambers Twilight 5K draws near, organizers are reminding runners, walkers and community members that registration remains open for the Aug. 7 event honoring the late Alabama sports reporter while supporting her son and local charities.
The race is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 7, at Cotton Creek in Cullman. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m., with the chip-timed 5K starting at 8 p.m. The event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and experience levels.
Created in memory of Christina Chambers, the event celebrates the Cullman native’s love of running while bringing the community together in her honor. All net proceeds from the race will benefit Chambers’ son, Constantine, and local charities.
Organizers have planned a full evening of activities leading up to the race. Participants can pick up race bibs, timing chips, event T-shirts and glow stick kits during check-in before enjoying music from DJ Michael Fowlkes, food, community vendors and children’s activities beginning at 6 p.m.
A community warm-up led by The Vault and Fit Society is scheduled for 7 p.m. before runners head to the starting line. Following the race, Elevate at The Venue will lead a guided cool-down stretch before the evening concludes with live music from Fly By Radio.
Cullman Savings Bank is serving as the event’s title sponsor. WBRC, where Chambers spent much of her television career, is listed as the media sponsor, and several gold and silver level participants are also sponsoring the event.
Chambers joined WBRC in 2015 and became a familiar face covering high school football and sports across Alabama. Before moving to Birmingham, she worked as a sports reporter and anchor at WAKA in Montgomery and previously held television positions in Columbus, Georgia, and Atlanta. She also returned to freelance reporting during the 2025 football season.
A graduate of Cullman High School, Chambers competed in Division I cross-country and track at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she earned her journalism degree.
Chambers was tragically killed in December 2025 at the age of 38. Since then, family, friends and members of the community have continued finding ways to honor her memory, including the creation of the Christina Chambers Twilight 5K.
The event continues a community effort to honor Chambers’ memory while supporting her son, Constantine, and local charities.
