HUNTSVILLE — Though schools just recently opened, Huntsville Parks & Recreation already has ideas for parents to keep the kids active on Fall Break.
The city’s annual Fall Break camps are scheduled for the week of Sept. 30 to Oct. 4 and registration runs Sept. 3-23. Spaces are limited and filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
A separate application is required for each child.
“Not only do we aim to provide a safe and affordable environment for parents’ peace of mind, but we also want our children to have an exciting and engaging experience,” said Parks & Rec Director James Gossett. “To that end, we’re again offering half-day art and STEM camps, alongside our traditional full-day camps.”
Full-day camps
From Sept. 30 to Oct. 4, full-day camps will be available at four centers: Mark Russell, Cavalry Hill, Richard Showers and Fern Bell. Camps run from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., for grades 1-6, with a fee of $50 for the first child and $30 for each additional sibling. Activities include art, outdoor play and games, supervised by professional staff. A snack will be provided, but children should bring their own lunch.
Half-day specialty camps
Two half-day specialty camps will be offered Sept. 30 to Oct. 4. The cost is $25 per child and $10 for each sibling:
- STEM Camp: 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center. Campers can dive into various STEM activities and explore different career paths.
- Little Picasso Art Camp: 8:30 a.m. to noon at Optimist Recreation Center, featuring themed art projects for grades 1-6.
