HUNTSVILLE – After announcing his campaign for U.S. Senate this week, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore made a stop in Huntsville to share why he is running and emphasize the importance he places on standing with President Donald Trump.
“I think it goes back to 2015, being the first elected official in the nation who endorsed Donald Trump and needing people in the fight for him,” Moore (R-Enterprise) said. “I’ve served on House Judiciary Committee and just knowing that we have to have people in D.C. that the man can trust to move his agenda forward. Millions of Americans elected him. He won every swing state.
“And so it’s just important that we know that we send somebody from Alabama that will have his back in the fight as we move forward.”
Moore pledged to maintain his support for Trump and the “America First” agenda if elected to the Senate. He also reiterated his backing of the “big beautiful bill,” which he said targets tax burdens that harm Alabama families and farmers.
“Just inheritance tax on farmers. I mean, farmers are cash poor and their asset rich. And so when they pass away, these family farms get auctioned off so the IRS can collect the death tax,” he said.
“And so for us, it’s important that we pass along those generational farms in this country and do away with the death tax for those areas. And certainly no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security.”
Moore said now is the time to support working Americans.
“And one of the great things too is we’re just asking able bodied people to go to work instead of riding on the government’s time and giving tax breaks to people who are actually working,” he said. “I think that’s fair.”
One of Moore’s goals is to take Alabama’s values to Washington.
“We have a lot of common sense in this part of the country, I say. And so just need more of that in Washington, D.C.,” said Moore. “True conservative values, the voice of the people. So we have to make sure that we carry that message to D.C. and make America more like Alabama.”
When asked about his greatest achievement in public service, Moore pointed to his conservative record.
“So for me, I think probably just being a true conservative,” he said. “You look at my Liberty Score, it’s the top in the delegation. I’m the 13th most conservative congressman in the United States Congress.”
Moore was elected to the House in 2020. He will officially begin his campaign today at an event in DeKalb County.
