Schools Foundation holiday initiative to ‘recharge’ area teachers

HUNTSVILLE — The Schools Foundation is amping up a holiday-giving initiative to support area teachers with a holiday “recharge”.

With a vision of being a driving force for excellence in public education, the foundation’s goal is to transform Huntsville City, Madison City, and Madison County into world-class schools.

The foundation will hold teacher “recharge” sessions. It has partnered with Happi Pappi, a local French beignet shop, to provide complimentary beverages and breakfast items to teachers across Madison County in December.

The first “recharge” is Friday for Madison County teachers. The session will be at the Madison County Schools Office at 1275 Jordan Road in Huntsville, from 6:45-8 a.m.

On Dec. 9, Huntsville city teachers can get recharged at Milton Frank Stadium from 6:45-8 a.m.

Madison City teachers get their chance Dec. 14 at Madison City Schools Stadium from 6:45-8 a.m.

The holiday recharge initiative is sponsored by Toyota Alabama and the Aerojet Rocketdyne Foundation. Public donations in support of the initiative and The Schools Foundation can be made by clicking here.

This initiative comes on the heels of foundation announcing its purchase of an online resource called Recharge that addresses teachers’ mental health and wellness needs.

The foundation plans to take the pilot program created by Leadership Greater Huntsville’s 2022 Flagship Class, to the next phase and offer Recharge events in the coming year and possibly beyond.

Recharge was built to address the unique needs teachers faced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the stresses they face in a post-pandemic world. The content was developed in collaboration with locally owned WellStone, and Solid Ground Counseling Center.

The Schools Foundation will add a collaborative professional development component for teachers to Recharge. The goal is to provide a Recharge experience for teachers to slow down, share coping mechanisms and best practices, and improve their mental health and classroom skills.
