Second teen charged with capital murder in connection to Huntsville shooting

HUNTSVILLE – A second teen has been charged with capital murder and two counts of first-degree assault in connection to last week’s shooting on Max Luther Drive in north Huntsville, according to the Huntsville Police Department.
The 15-year-old male was taken into custody Monday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Cocoa Beach, Fla., after disembarking from a cruise ship, Huntsville police said today in a news release. Information on extradition is not available at this time,

A 16-year-old male has also been charged with capital murder after the shooting on Max Luther Drive at 4:40 p.m. last Tuesday.

An HPD officer responded to Huntsville Hospital after three gunshot victims arrived for treatment, HPD said. One of the victims died at the hospital. Another victim remains in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The responding officer learned the shooting involved juveniles in two vehicles on Max Luther Drive just west of Washington Street. Officers dispatched to the scene also recovered ballistic evidence.

Less than two hours later, the vehicle suspected in the incident was located. The two juvenile occupants were detained and interviewed. One was charged with capital murder and the other was released.

Major Crimes Unit investigators believe the incident involved an ongoing dispute between the juveniles.

On the day of the shooting, the victims were followed from the area of Blue Spring Road and Sparkman Drive to Max Luther Drive where the shooting occurred, police said.
