MADISON — City Councilman John Seifert, saying there is “more to do and more we should do,” announced today he is seeking a third term as Madison’s District 7 representative.
“Having served, and now leading our council, through the past 9 years I am so proud of all we have been able to accomplish,” he said in a statement. “I am most proud that we ensured our schools received what they needed in terms of funding via the community approved 12-mil property tax increase for improved security, another middle and elementary school and other system wide initiatives; innovatively stimulated economic development through investing in Town Madison via our own Toyota field, in its fifth season with much anticipated success, and surrounding businesses now seeing excess revenues able to add to the general fund.”
Seifert also cited improvements at Sunshine Oaks park; building a community center out of the previous Three Springs youth detention facility; and the city’s expanded network of sidewalks, trails and multi-use paths/greenways for increased walkability.
“We have done so much more than the above but there is more to do and more we should do,” he said. “I plan to continue leading as we work to get after our infrastructure needs in road expansion projects utilizing realized increased economic revenues and working closely with our county, state and federal leaders; enhancing partnerships with Madison City Schools ensuring their long term needs are met funding wise …
“And collaboratively working with our other local, county, state and federal leaders to ensure we maximize resources and deliver the best return on investment for our citizens.”
The municipal election is Aug. 26.
