Senior Fun Fest returns for TARCOG with spirited Mardi Gras attitude

NEW MARKET – Gonna party like it’s 1703, or maybe 2019, compliments of TARCOG and the Madison County Commission.

May is Older Americans Month and the TARCOG (Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments) Region is getting back together for the first time since the pandemic to “Celebrate Like It’s Mardi Gras’’ with the 37th annual resumption of the Senior Fun Fest.

Up to 2,000 seniors and their caretakers from DeKalb, Jackson, Limestone, Madison and Marshall counties are expected to attend the festival that is taking on the theme of the revelry held in America for the first time in Mobile shortly after the turn of the 18th century.

Fun Fest is sponsored annually by TARCOG and the Madison County Commission, with ticket sales and other local businesses also providing financial support to offset costs for entertainment, games and activities, snacks, lunch, and door prizes.

Tickets are now on sale, according to Sheila Dessau-Ivey, TARCOG’s director of aging programs.
