A Shoals-based steel fabrication company has landed an $11.5 million U.S. Army Corps of Engineers contract for work supporting a major lock and dam on the Ohio River.
G & G Steel Inc. of Russellville was awarded the firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for the removal, fabrication, delivery and installation of culvert valve assemblies at Cannelton Locks and Dam.
The $11,497,944 award brings the total cumulative value of the contract to approximately $14.6 million.
The culvert valve assemblies are part of the main lock chamber at Cannelton, which is located on the Ohio River between Indiana and Kentucky and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Work locations and funding will be determined with each order issued under the contract, with completion expected by Nov. 8, 2030.
The Corps solicited bids online and received three offers for the work.
The award adds to G & G Steel’s long history of performing large-scale fabrication and machining work for heavy civil infrastructure and the Army Corps of Engineers.
Founded in 1975, the family-owned company is headquartered in Russellville and specializes in heavy steel fabrication, large machining and complex assemblies for infrastructure, bridges, aerospace and other industries.
Its Russellville operation spans 27 acres and includes approximately 320,000 square feet of fabrication space, a 90,400-square-foot machine shop and a 26,880-square-foot clean assembly bay.
G & G Steel also operates Warrior River Steel in Cordova and Mississippi Works in Iuka, Mississippi. Across its three locations, the company has more than 918,000 square feet of manufacturing and fabrication space.
The latest Corps contract continues the Russellville company’s work on large-scale infrastructure projects requiring the heavy fabrication and machining capabilities it has built in the Shoals for more than five decades.
