Singing River Trail exec director arrested on child pornography charges

BROWNSBORO — John Kvach, the executive director of the Singing River Trail, was arrested Monday morning on charges of dissemination/display of child pornography, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

Kvach was booked at 10:29 a.m. into the Madison County Jail on a $100,000 bond following a raid at his home in Brownsboro around 7 a.m.

He is charged with five counts of possession of child pornography and one count of dissemination of child pornography, according to jail records.

In a statement, the board of directors of Singing River Trail said, “The alleged behavior is unacceptable and reprehensible. At this time, the Board of Directors does not believe that any of the alleged conduct involved Singing River Trail resources, offices, or sites, but should that change, the Board will direct its remaining team members to fully investigate any such allegation.”

The statement also said the board is releasing Kvach from the organization and will open a search for a new executive director.

“As of today, the Board is beginning the process of Dr. Kvach’s separation from the Singing River Trail,” the statement said. “As the Board navigates that process, we will begin the hard work of finding a new Executive Director that meets the Board’s high expectations and represents the values of the Singing River Trail.

“The important work of the Singing River Trail will continue.”

Kvach has led the Singing Trail since its inception. It is a a 200-plus mile greenway system that spans across North Alabama, creating economic and tourism opportunities.
