Bargain hunters, collectors and treasure seekers will once again descend on Northeast Alabama in August as the World’s Longest Yard Sale returns for its annual four-day shopping extravaganza.
Known nationally as the 127 Yard Sale, the event will take place Aug. 6-9, and stretch 690 miles through six states, beginning in Gadsden and winding through Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan.
The route follows the scenic Lookout Mountain Parkway through Northeast Alabama before continuing north to its final destination in Addison, Michigan.
Organizers say the event attracts thousands of visitors each year searching for antiques, collectibles, furniture, home décor, vintage finds, local produce, homemade goods and one-of-a-kind treasures.
The Alabama portion begins in Gadsden and follows the 93-mile Lookout Mountain Parkway through communities including Fort Payne before crossing into Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Created to encourage travelers to leave the interstate and explore small towns and rural communities, the sale has grown into one of the largest shopping experiences in the country.
Along the route, visitors will find roadside vendors, community markets, food trucks, live entertainment and large vendor hubs featuring dozens of sellers in a single location.
Beyond the shopping opportunities, organizers encourage visitors to explore Northeast Alabama’s natural attractions, including waterfalls, canyons, scenic overlooks, state parks and historic downtown districts.
The Lookout Mountain Parkway has earned national recognition from publications including Reader’s Digest, National Geographic and Southern Living for its scenic beauty.
Most vendors begin operating around 8 a.m. each day and remain open into the evening. While some vendors accept credit cards, organizers recommend bringing cash.
