Bank Independent has donated $2,000 to American Legion Post #11 to help support the organization’s efforts to honor veterans through military burial services across Northwest Alabama.
The contribution will help the post maintain and expand its Honor Guard program, which provides ceremonial services for veteran funerals throughout Lauderdale County and in coordination with American Legion posts in neighboring counties.
Services include rifle salutes, bugle presentations and the ceremonial presentation of the American flag to family members.
“The last thing a veteran gets is that American flag draped over their coffin,” said Mary Day Smith, adjutant of the American Legion Post #11. “That’s the final respect they receive, and that’s why we try to keep our Honor Guard alive. We want to do our best to provide that honor for every veteran and their family.”
According to the post, the donation will help purchase additional burial flags and a second “bugle box,” allowing Honor Guard members to conduct multiple funeral services simultaneously when needed.
Bank Independent CEO Macke Mauldin said the donation reflects the bank’s commitment to honoring veterans and supporting organizations that serve them.
“As our nation prepares to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, supporting the American Legion Post #11 is a meaningful way for Bank Independent to honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms,” Mauldin said. “We are grateful for the Legion’s commitment to ensuring local veterans and their families receive the dignity, recognition and respect they deserve.”
The Honor Guard regularly participates in veteran burial services across Northwest Alabama, ensuring military honors are provided to former service members and their families during funeral ceremonies.
Founded in 1947, Bank Independent operates 33 offices across North Alabama and supports a variety of community organizations through charitable giving and volunteer efforts.
