Democratic congressional candidate Andrew Sneed’s campaign has announced a series of town hall meetings across North Alabama this fall
The “Hear Every Voice” Town Hall Series will include four public events in Scottsboro, Decatur, Athens and Huntsville ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
According to the announcement, U.S. Rep. Dale Strong was invited to participate in the series. The Sneed campaign said neither Strong nor his staff had responded to the invitation.
“To be clear, this will not be a debate nor will it be a format for ‘gotcha’ type questions,” Sneed said in a statement. “I believe the participation of both candidates would be informative and useful to the voters in CD5 and allow us both the opportunity to answer their substantive concerns and show our mutual commitment to the democratic process.”
The campaign said the town halls are intended to encourage civic engagement and provide voters from across the political spectrum an opportunity to ask questions about issues affecting their communities.
The scheduled events include:
- Monday, Aug. 17 — 6 to 7:30 p.m., Bynum Auditorium, Scottsboro. Former state Rep. Mike Ball will serve as moderator.
- Wednesday, Aug. 26 — 6 to 7:30 p.m., Turner Surles Venue, Decatur. Ball will moderate.
- Wednesday, Sept. 9 — 6 to 7:30 p.m., McCandless Hall at Athens State University. Moderator to be announced.
- Tuesday, Oct. 6 — 6 to 7:30 p.m., Bob Harrison Senior Wellness & Advocacy Center. Kenny Anderson will moderate.
The events are free and open to the public and members of the media.
