SSAC men’s & women’s cross country championships return to Oakville Indian Mounds Park

DANVILLE – Some of the top collegiate cross country runners will be taking their marks Friday for the Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships.

The SSAC Championships are back in Oakville Indian Mounds Park for the eighth consecutive year.

The William Carey University women’s and University of Mobile men’s teams return to defend their 2024 titles against runners from Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, Blue Mountain Christian University, Brewton-Parker Christian University, Dalton State College, Faulkner University, Life University, Loyola University New Orleans, Point University, Thomas University, and the University of Tennessee Southern.

The women’s 6K race will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men’s 8K at 9:15 a.m. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy the races and support their favorite teams and runners. Admission is free, and leashed dogs are welcome on-site.

This season’s standout athletes include UT Southern’s Frank Kipruto, who clocked a top men’s 8K time of 24:28.6, and Kristina Stojanovic of defending SSAC champion William Carey leading the women’s division with a 22:14.8 in the 6K.

The event is hosted in partnership with Decatur Morgan County Tourism, a supporter of several SSAC championships, including cross country, competitive cheer, and softball.
