CULLMAN — The Matterhorn. Pharaoh’s Fury. Typhoon.

Those rides, as well as the classic Tilt-A-Whirl and others, await visitors to the biggest little fair in Alabama.

The Cullman County Fair opens today with a ribbon-cutting at 5 p.m. and runs through Oct. 14.

Last year, more than 50,000 visitors took part in the rides from America’s best midway at Kissel Entertainment, along with local arts, crafts, livestock and even a petting zoo.

This is the 69th edition of the local fair, which has a rich history dating back to 1954. The event is hosted by the Cullman County Fair Association, and all proceeds benefit local charities through the Cullman Lions Club.

“We are thrilled to invite everyone back out to one of the largest fundraising events that
strictly benefits local charities in the entire state of Alabama,” said Fair Association President Charlie Childers. “This event has given hope and resources to causes which bring out the best in us all. We hope to see you there.”

The fair is at the Cullman Fairgrounds at 1501 Sportsman Lake Road. For information, visit cullmanfair.org.
