HUNTSVILLE — Hundreds of Madison County residents are waking up this morning without electricity after powerful storms swept through the area overnight.
According to Huntsville Utilities, there were approximately 500 customers without power as of 7:10 a.m., down from a high of about 13,600 in Madison County.
“These are all smaller clusters of outages, with the greatest number in downtown Huntsville,” the utility said in a news release. “Electric Operations crews have worked through the night and will continue to do so until restoration is complete, however, we do not have time estimates for specific locations.”
There are also outages in northwest Madison County, the Hazel Green area, and areas of eastern Madison County.
Huntsville Utilities said crews responded to multiple power outages Sunday night in Huntsville including central Huntsville from Mastin Lake Road south to Holmes Avenue; Jordan Lane east to Maysville Road; and in Madison County along Dug Hill Road from U.S. 431 north to U.S. 72.
The utility said this morning it will need to replace five damaged poles and 17 power lines were down. At 11 p.m., reports indicated one utility pole down, 21 power lines down, 15 primary outages, and 11 trees in lines or poles.
Customers without power should call 256-53LIGHT (256-535-4448). A map of outages is available here.
