Strategic agreement brings VA services to Redstone Arsenal

REDSTONE ARSENAL Answering the call for enhanced health care for veterans and area military personnel, Fox Army Health Center and the Birmingham VA Health Care System have formed a partnership, according to Redstone Arsenal officals.

The announcement will be culminated with a ribbon-cutting next Wednesday at Fox Army Health Center.

Leaders of both organizations said the partnership underscores their shared commitment to providing high-quality medical care to those who have served their country.

“We are excited about the opportunities this partnership will create and look forward to working closely with the Huntsville Clinic and Birmingham VA,” said Fox Army Health Center Commander Lt. Col. Deepak Mathew. “In many cases the veteran might be eligible for care at the DOD level and the VA level. In these instances, the patient will have everything as a ‘one-stop’ shop with both primary care and the pharmacy in a single location.

“But the main goal is to improve the health and well-being of our veteran and military community.”

Under the agreement, Fox Army Health Center will have access to the Huntsville Veterans Clinic’s advanced MRI/CT imaging, and ultrasound/screening mammography procedures.

The Huntsville VA Clinic will use space at Fox Army Health Center to establish a full Patient Aligned Care Team, offering comprehensive primary care services for veterans.

“We are honored to enter into this partnership with Fox Army Health Center,” said Oladipo “Ladi” Kukoyi, CEO/executive director of the Birmingham VA Health Care System. “This collaboration represents a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to provide veterans and military personnel with the best possible health care.”

The collaboration is expected to expand VA’s capacity to serve nearly 600 additional patients at the Fox Army location.

According to officials, the primary goals are:

  • Expanding Access to Care: Veterans and military personnel will benefit from increased access to MRI and CT imaging and Ultrasound and Mammography services at the Huntsville VA, while also receiving primary care from a dedicated PACT team at Fox Army Health Center.
  • Improving Quality of Care: By pooling collective expertise and resources, VA and Fox Army aim to enhance the quality and efficiency of medical care provided to veterans and military personnel.
  • Streamlining Services: The agreement will facilitate the coordination of patient care, ensuring seamless transitions between facilities and reducing wait times for both imaging and primary care services.

“By combining our strengths, we can offer more comprehensive and accessible services to those who have bravely served our nation,” Kukoyi said. “This agreement adds an extra layer to the patient experience.”

The sharing agreement will be implemented over the next few weeks, with a focus on integrating services and enhancing patient care protocols.
