A new community food festival highlighting local restaurants and supporting services for seniors will debut in Athens next month.
The Taste of Athens-Limestone is scheduled for Monday, April 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, located at 201 E. Hobbs St. in Athens.
The event will bring together restaurants from across Athens and Limestone County, allowing attendees to sample signature dishes and experience the area’s diverse dining scene in one evening.
Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Foundation for Aging, which helps support programs serving elderly residents in Limestone County. Funding from the organization provides transportation assistance for seniors, supports local senior centers, and helps fund the Meals on Wheels program and the Athens Activity Center.
The food festival also marks a new chapter for the organization’s fundraising efforts. For more than two decades, the Foundation for Aging’s primary fundraiser was the Poke Sallet Follies, a dinner and variety show that featured local leaders and volunteers. The long-running event ended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Organizers say the Taste of Athens-Limestone is designed to continue supporting the foundation’s mission while highlighting local businesses and bringing the community together.
Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased online or at select Athens businesses. Advance tickets are available at Athens Florist & Gifts, 105 S. Clinton St., and Refine Chiropractic, located in the U.S. Highway 72 Publix shopping center. Checks should be made payable to the Foundation for Aging.
Tickets can also be purchased online through the event’s registration page.
Organizers say the indoor event will feature food samples from participating restaurants, giving attendees an opportunity to “taste their way” through the local dining scene while supporting services for senior citizens in the community.
