ATHENS — Pretty soon there will be a lot of young and older folks sawin’ on a fiddle and playin’ it hot now.

The Athens State University Foundation and the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention Steering Committee have announced the 2022-2023 Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Concert Series lineup.

The six-part series leading up to the 2023 Fiddlers Convention next October will allow music enthusiasts to enjoy the sounds of old-time music throughout the year.

This year’s convention is Oct. 6-8 at Athens State University.

The 2023 Fiddlers Concert Series line up:

  • Dec. 6 – Authentic Unlimited
  • Jan. 26, 2023 – IIIrd Tyme Out
  • March 21, 2023 – Wanda Vick and Friends
  • May 11, 2023 – Rob Ickes & Trey Hensley
  • July 13, 2023 – Blue Highway
  • Sept. 28, 2023 – Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers

The Fiddlers Concert Series is supported through funding provided by the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area, and through grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts.

In addition, the Athens State University Foundation received additional grants from the Alabama Tourism Department totaling $5,200 thanks to State Rep. Danny Crawford (R-Athens) and for $7,800 from State Sen. Tom Butler (R-Madison).

The grants help cover expenses for the convention in October, which brings some 10,000 people to Athens-Limestone County from around the country, and for the Fiddlers Concert Series.

All six concerts for the series will be held at Athens State University in McCandless Hall at 7 p.m.

Seating for concerts will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tickets for each show are $15 for adults and $5 for kids under 18.

Guests have a choice between two Fiddlers Concert Series season passes.

Open seating season passes are $125 and include one ticket to each of the six concerts in the 2023 Fiddlers Concert Series, and one weekend pass to the 2023 Fiddlers Convention.

Reserved seating passes cost $150. After choosing your own seats from those available in McCandless Hall, they can be reserved for the rest of the concert series. The reserved seating pass also includes one ticket to all six concerts in the 2023 Fiddlers Concert Series and one weekend pass to the 2023 Fiddlers Convention.
