The Huntsville Ballet is en l’air: Presents first full season in two years

HUNTSVILLE — The Huntsville Ballet, the city’s only professional ballet, returns to the stage in October to open its first full season of performances in two years. The local troupe promises a varied but familiar program for the 2022-2023 season.

During the pandemic, the ballet did perform, but with only smaller programs.

“HBC Unplugged” Oct. 21-23 at Dream Theater on Holmes Avenue downtown

Artistic Director Phillip Otto’s “Tumbleweed Suite” makes its premiere.

“Inspired by George Balanchine, this energetic new piece of choreography captures the spirit of the old West infusing classical ballet with traditional western themes and American folk dancing,” Otto said.

54th annual performance of “The Nutcracker” Dec. 9-11 at the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall.

The holidays would not be complete without this cherished holiday tradition, “The Nutcracker”.

Clara’s enchanting story comes to life when the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra merges Tchaikovsky’s iconic score with the Huntsville Ballet’s masterful choreography, enchanting scenes, and stunning costumes.

“HBC Off-Stage”, a collection of the best of the Huntsville Ballet Feb. 17- 19, 2023 at Dream Theater.

Kicking off the New Year, this production features Pas de Deux, Variations, and sections of popular works such as “Stage Door Canteen,” and “Romeo and Juliet,” but the company will introduce an original new work at this performance as well.

“Cinderella” April 14-16, 2023 at the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall

One of the most famous ballets of all time, the performance brings to life the transformation of the poor cinder girl, a servant to her cruel stepmother and evil stepsisters, into Cinderella’s magical world where she wins the love of a handsome prince.
