Three of North Alabama’s largest nonprofit community health providers are joining forces next month to connect families with affordable healthcare and community resources during the annual Community Fun & Wellness Block Party.
Central North Alabama Health Services Inc. (CNAHSI), HAPPI Health and Thrive Alabama will host the free event from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at Butler Green Park at Campus 805.
Held during National Health Center Week, the event is designed to help families learn about healthcare services available throughout the region, regardless of income or insurance status.
Together, the three organizations serve more than 30,000 North Alabama residents each year, offering services that include primary medical care, dental care, behavioral health, STI and STD testing, chiropractic care, pharmacy services, prescription assistance and insurance enrollment support.
Organizers said the goal is to introduce families to available healthcare resources before an urgent medical need arises.
“National Health Center Week events give us an important opportunity to raise awareness of the affordable, high-quality care available in our community,” said Carleton Pyfrom Sr., CEO of CNAHSI. “This block party strengthens those connections and helps families access resources that can have a lasting impact.”
Mary Elizabeth Marr, CEO of Thrive Alabama, said the collaboration demonstrates a shared commitment to improving community health.
“While Thrive Alabama, Central North Alabama Health Services and HAPPI Health are separate nonprofit organizations, we come together with one shared purpose—to connect our community with quality healthcare, wellness resources and the services families need to thrive,” Marr said.
HAPPI Health CEO Michelda Johnson said the partnership reflects the organizations’ collective mission to expand access to care.
“Community health is strongest when we work together,” Johnson said. “The Community Fun & Wellness Block Party reflects our shared commitment to expanding access to care, promoting healthy lifestyles and connecting families with the resources they need.”
The event will feature free health screenings, school supply giveaways while supplies last, community resource booths, more than $1,000 in prizes, free pizza and shaved ice while supplies last, along with family-friendly entertainment including DJ Lashae B of 103.1 WEUP, the Huntsville Drumline, inflatables, face painting, games and a mobile video game truck.
