Traffic to be impacted in Cummings Research Park for US Paralympics Cycling Time Trial

HUNTSVILLE — Drivers in Cummings Research Park and around Columbia High School will have to contend with extra traffic – of the two-wheeled kind – this weekend.

There will be temporary road closures and potential traffic delays as the U.S. Paralympics Cycling team holds it time trial in and around the school.

Huntsville Police will manage traffic and assist the public as needed. Meanwhile, drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternate routes and allow for extra travel time.

Pedestrians and spectators are also urged to follow safety guidelines and be aware of race participants and event staff.

It all begins 9 a.m. Friday when the route will be set up. The southbound lanes of Explorer Boulevard will be closed from Farrow Road to the Columbia High School entrance. Drivers should expect increased congestion and delays near the school.

The competition takes place Saturday from 6 a.m. to noon. During this time, all of Explorer Boulevard and its interior roads will be affected, leading to significant traffic delays in the area.
