TRINITY — A beloved community playground in the Morgan County town of Trinity will see new life soon, thanks to a federal grant.
The $148,111 grant from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund will be used to renovate Kimbrel Park, Gov. Kay Ivey announced.
Ivey notified Mayor Vaughn Goodwin that the grant had been approved. The town is providing the required match of $148,111 for the project.
According to a news release, the town will replace worn and outdated playground equipment with items that are modern and safer.
“This newly renovated community park will once again provide a safe place for children to play in a more welcoming and modern setting,” Ivey said. “I commend local leaders for taking the initiative to enhance the quality of life of Trinity’s families by implementing these beneficial park improvements.”
The new playground will offer swings and a play tower on a rubberized play surface. The town also plans to landscape the park to make it more attractive.
The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a program of the U.S. Department of the Interior. The program is administered in Alabama by the Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
“Playgrounds are major contributors to childhood development,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell. “The memories made at the Kimbrel Park will last a lifetime. ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in supporting this project.”
