TV journalist, philanthropist Chauncy Glover, an Athens native, dies at age 39

LOS ANGELES — Chauncy Glover, an Athens native, died Tuesday, according to his family. He was 39.

Glover, a three-time Emmy winning journalist and Los Angeles television anchor, was known not only for his work in journalism but also for his profound dedication to the community he served, according to a post on the Chauncy Glover Project Houston Facebook page.

“We, Sherry and Robert Glover, along with Chauncy’s beloved family, are devastated by the unimaginable loss of our beloved Chauncy,” the family posted. “He was more than a son and brother — he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community. Chauncy’s compassion and dedication to helping others, especially through the Chauncy Glover Project, changed countless lives and inspired so many young men to pursue their dreams. His talent, warmth, and vision left an imprint on everyone who knew him, and the world is dimmer without him.

“While we grieve this profound loss, we are comforted by the outpouring of love and memories shared by those who knew Chauncy as the passionate, gifted soul he was. We kindly ask for privacy as we mourn and honor his incredible legacy. He was taken from us far too soon, but his impact will be felt forever.”
Before he worked with KCAL in Los Angeles, Glover was the first Black male main anchor for Houston’s KTRK, where he was on the air for eight years, according to KCAL. He graduated from East Limestone High School and Troy University and also worked in Columbus, Ga; Detroit; and Jacksonville, Fla.
His Chauncy Glover Project is “an extensive, hands-on mentoring program, created to groom inner-city teenage boys into upstanding and accomplished gentlemen. This culturally specific intervention for Black and Latino male youth focuses on Education, Manhood and Self-Empowerment,” according to the organization’s website.
