HANCEVILLE – The Tennessee Valley Authority is asking for public input on proposed transmission system improvements to prepare for growth and increase power reliability in the Colony, Arkadelphia, and Mulberry River areas near Hanceville.
TVA proposes to invest about $11 million to build a power line connection from the Hanceville-Bremen 161KV transmission line to Cullman Electric’s new Mulberry Substation on the north side of Alabama 91 between County Roads 503 and 504.
The new line would be less than eight miles and built using primarily single- and double-pole, steel structures on a new 100-foot-wide right of way.
To address concerns and questions, TVA is holding an open house/information session next Thursday from 3-7 p.m. at the Colony Education Complex, 151 Byars Road.
Detailed maps showing the locations being considered for the proposed transmission line will be available. TVA staff will answer questions, discuss concerns, and receive comments. More information is available at tva.com/transmissionprojects.
TVA is also providing a virtual open house at tvavirtual.com/mulberry through July 31 for those who are not able to attend the open house.
The public may also submit comments by contacting Spencer Whittier at 800-362-4355, by email at [email protected] or by mail to: Spencer Whittier, Tennessee Valley Authority, 1101 Market St., MR 4G, Chattanooga, TN, 37402-2801. The deadline for comments is July 31.
TVA reports the region’s population growth is six times higher than the national rate. To prepare for growth, TVA is investing $2.8 billion in transmission system improvements across its service area through 2027, to build the energy grid of the future that will continue to provide reliable, affordable, resilient and clean energy.
