TVA partners with Cyber School to ’empower the workforce of future’

HUNTSVILLE –The Tennessee Valley Authority and the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering have partnered to advance cybersecurity education and workforce development across Alabama.

The collaboration aims to equip students with the skills to thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape, the TVA and ASCTE announced Monday.

“TVA has a comprehensive cybersecurity program to predict, protect, detect, and respond to cyber threats. It’s essential to maintaining our power grid,” said Jared Mitchem, regional executive for TVA’s South Region. “The innovative approach at the Alabama School of Cyber Technology & Engineering aligns seamlessly with TVA’s mission. We’re proud to partner with ASCTE to prepare students across Alabama to learn, lead, and build tomorrow together.”  

ASCTE provides cutting-edge education in cybersecurity, programming, and engineering through hands-on, immersive learning experiences. Kenneth (KC) Carnes II, Vice President of Cybersecurity and CISO at TVA, praised the school, calling it a model in shaping future workforce innovators.  

PeggyLee Wright, Executive Director of the ASCTE Foundation, added, “Through our partnership with TVA, we’re creating opportunities that empower students to thrive in the evolving fields of cybersecurity and engineering. Together, we’re preparing the leaders of tomorrow to protect our digital future.”

In the program, TVA employees will work with students bridging classroom learning with real-world industry expertise.

“This sponsorship represents an opportunity for TVA cybersecurity employees to make a direct and lasting impact,” said Gregory Jackson, Cybersecurity Authorization & Outreach manager at TVA. “It’s exciting to be part of the skills development and relationship-building needed to sustain a diverse workforce.”
