The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is requesting customers reduce their electric consumption from the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. today. TVA is expecting voluntary curtailment to be in effect daily through Friday.

In voluntary curtailment, customers are asked to reduce their electric consumption by turning off unneeded lights and by not using major appliances such as ovens, washing machines, washers and dryers.

In a statement, the TVA said the forecasted higher temperatures throughout the Tennessee Valley Authority service area was expected to bring a high electric demand on their system.

The TVA is forecasting temperatures at or exceeding 95 degrees Valley-wide through Friday.

The federally owned electric utility corporation is expecting voluntary curtailment to be in effect daily through Friday.

TVA provides power to local power companies in 17 Alabama counties: Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Etowah, Franklin, Jackson, Jefferson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, Morgan and Winston.

TVA’s power service territory covers 80,000 square miles, including most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina and Virginia.
