The Tennessee Valley Authority is seeking public input on a proposed transmission line that would serve a new Cherokee Electric Cooperative substation in Crossville.

Cherokee Electric plans to build the substation at the northeast corner of Alabama 227 and DeKalb County Road 8/26. TVA said the project would help meet growing electricity demand and improve reliability in the DeKalb County area.

The proposal calls for about 6 to 8 miles of single-circuit transmission line within a new 100-foot-wide right of way. The line would primarily use single-pole structures, although two-pole H-frame structures could be used depending on the terrain.

Residents can learn more during an open house from 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at Boaz Parks and Recreation, 400 Elizabeth St. in Boaz.

Organizers say the open house does not include a formal presentation and is designed to give attendees an opportunity to engage directly with TVA staff to ask individual questions, discuss concerns, and receive comments.

Maps, a proposed project schedule and other information also will be available through a virtual open house on TVA’s website from Oct. 22 through Dec. 3.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is the nation’s largest public power supplier, delivering energy to more than 10 million people across seven southeastern states.
