HUNTSVILLE — The Tennessee Valley Authority is working with schools in North Alabama to reduce energy waste so that funding can instead go to educational tools and resources.
The initiative is part of the organization’s EnergyRight School Uplift program. Schools enrolled for the 2024-2025 school year are in Cohort 5.
Clarissa McClain, senior communications consultant for the TVA’s South Region, explained the scope of the program and why it’s valuable to education in the region.
“TVA’s EnergyRight School Uplift is investing in student education in many ways, including providing grants to schools in need,” said McClain. “Overall, 224 schools have completed our training program for strategic energy management, and we’ve awarded $7.88 million in grants to make energy upgrades and learning environment improvements at these schools.
“In fiscal year 2024, TVA invested nearly $3 million to help make 106 schools more energy efficient through the TVA School Uplift program.
“The following schools in north Alabama are enrolled in Cohort 5, along with 97 other participants from the Valley, this current school year and thank our local power companies who will support them in making energy-efficiency improvements.”
