FLORENCE —  Ron Tyler won nearly every box Tuesday en route to capturing the Florence mayoral race.

Mayor Andy Betterton did not run for reelection, meaning a new list of contenders ran for the position and Tyler pulled away from the six other contenders.

In unofficial counting, Tyler had 3,087 votes for 51.41% of the tally as he collected 11 of the 13 boxes (including the absentee box) to become Florence’s next mayor.

Steve Holt was second with 1,247 votes (20.77%) and Christian McCoy (875 votes, 14.57%) came in third.

The rest of the field was Bill Griffin (527; 8.78%), Billy Ray Simpson (130; 2.16%), Anthony Britnell (99; 1.65%), and Ricky Pickett (40; 0.67%).
