UAH hosting inaugural Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Breakfast

HUNTSVILLE — The University of Alabama in Huntsville is honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. next month with a breakfast for community and business leaders and students.

The “UAH Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Breakfast: Leaders Shaping the Business Community of the Future” will focus on the leadership principles set forth by King and showcase leaders in our community.

Kristina Hendrix, Vice President for Strategic Communications (Michael Mercier/UAH).

Kristina Hendrix, UAH vice president for strategic communications, said the breakfast is a first of its kind for UAH.

“Alabama has always had strong leaders from within our state,” she said. “Dr. King was a pivotal leader whose peaceful words and compelling actions changed our nation. This year, we wanted to take on a new approach to our annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. program and highlight business leaders in north and central Alabama who are paving the way for our state.

“The UAH Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Breakfast will be an opportunity for people in Huntsville to hear how Alabama is making a dynamic impact across our nation.”

The event will be Jan. 15 at 7:30 a.m. in the UAH Student Services Building. Hendrix said individual ticket and table sponsorships are available, which include student tickets.

“You will have the opportunity to have UAH College of Business students and future leaders join your table,” she said. “We make it a priority to engage our students with the business community and greater Huntsville community. Exposing students to these opportunities is a key to their future success.”

The event will feature a panel discussion from the presidents and CEOs from the Chambers of Commerce of Athens/Limestone, Decatur, Hoover, and Huntsville – Pammie Jimmar, Crystal Brown, Nan Baldwin and Chip Cherry.

Helena Duncan, president and CEO of the Business Council of Alabama, will be the featured speaker.

“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. taught us that true leadership is defined not by titles, but by service, vision, and the courage to take action,” she said. “These timeless principles continue to guide us as we work to create a brighter future for our communities.

“It is a privilege to join the University of Alabama in Huntsville for the MLK Jr. Leadership Breakfast, where we honor those who embody these ideals and drive meaningful change in our state. Together, we are building a business community that ignites innovation and opens doors to limitless opportunities for all across Alabama.”

Hendrix said support for the breakfast will allow UAH to host similar leadership events.

“Community support will help UAH to continue to bring more experts to our community,” said Hendrix. “Our plan is to host more events such as this in the future.”
