UNA event with Archie Manning sells out

FLORENCE – Football legend Archie Manning will bring his insight and humor to the University of North Alabama next month as part of the Lions Athletic Club’s 2023 Dinner and Auction.

Set for Aug. 10 at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center, the event sold out quickly.

“Tables were added until we reached full capacity at the Marriott,” said Payton Haslam, director of Athletic Development. “Sixty-five tables were sold and, for the first time in the event’s history, no individual tickets were sold due to the sellout of tables.

“We expect to have close to 520 guests in attendance.”

Manning is the latest of pro sports legends to speak to the group.

“This event will be a new pinnacle for the UNA Lions Athletic Club as we are bringing an internationally known and respected individual as our keynote speaker in Hall of Fame football player Archie Manning,” said Lions Athletic Club President Johnny Simpson. “We have achieved great success and community participation in the past few years with both Pete Rose and Bill Walton as our featured speakers.

“Archie Manning will bring a new level of excitement to the Shoals and the UNA communities.”

The dinner and auction gives the community another way to be part of the Lion family, and “offers attendees a great opportunity to connect with UNA Athletics,” Haslam said.

Manning was an all-American quarterback and is in the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame. He received the Southeastern Conference’s Michael L. Slive Distinguished Service Award.

A Pro Bowler in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, Manning was the NFC Most Valuable Player in 1978. He concluded his 15-year career in 1985.
