The University of North Alabama will host a one-day summit for coaches and athletic leaders from across the state later this month.

The 2026 Sport Leadership Summit is scheduled for May 11 at the Guillot University Center on the Florence campus. The event is designed for high school coaches, athletic directors and other sport professionals looking to improve their programs and connect with peers.

Organizers say the focus is on practical tools and real-world strategies.

“Our goal is to equip coaches and administrators with tools they can apply immediately while creating meaningful connections,” said Mark Linder, a lecturer in UNA’s Sport and Recreation Management Program.

The summit will include breakout sessions, networking opportunities and a vendor expo. Topics will center on leadership, program development and ways to better support student-athletes both on and off the field.

Featured speakers include Greg Byrne and Josh Looney. Both are expected to share insights from their experience in college athletics, including how to build strong programs and lead in a changing sports environment.

Organizers say the timing of the event is paramount. Coaches and administrators are taking on more responsibilities than ever, from managing teams to supporting students and navigating growing expectations.

The summit is also meant to help build connections across programs and communities. Attendees will have time to meet other coaches, exchange ideas and learn from professionals working at different levels of the sports industry.

Participants can earn up to six continuing education units, or one professional learning unit through PowerSchool Professional Learning. Additional online requirements are needed to complete the certification.

Registration for the event is $125.

UNA officials say hosting the summit reflects the university’s role in supporting workforce development and professional training in North Alabama. The campus has become a regular site for conferences and events tied to education and athletics.

The summit is expected to draw attendees from across Alabama.
