The City of Huntsville has approved more than $400,000 in funding to support local nonprofits serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing housing.
City officials announced the Fiscal Year 2025 Emergency Solutions Grant funding on May 5, with dollars distributed through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The funding is aimed at strengthening housing stability and expanding access to critical services across Huntsville.
“These grants reflect Huntsville’s ongoing commitment to supporting those in need and strengthening our community’s safety net,” said Scott Erwin, Community Development manager for the city. “By partnering with dedicated local organizations, we are ensuring that families and individuals facing housing insecurity have access to shelter, essential services and a path toward stability.”
Seven nonprofit organizations were selected to receive funding:
- AshaKiran Inc. — $25,000
- Catholic Center of Concern Huntsville — $155,000
- Community Action Partnership of Huntsville Madison and Limestone Counties Inc. — $25,000
- Crisis Services of North Alabama Inc. — $50,000
- Downtown Rescue Mission Inc. — $30,000
- Family Services Center Inc. — $102,000
- New Futures Inc. — $45,000
Officials said the grants will support a range of services, including emergency shelter operations, rapid re-housing, homelessness prevention, street outreach and data tracking through the Homeless Management Information System.
Each organization will be required to submit monthly reports to ensure accountability and effective use of the funds.
