UpDog Challenge Canine Disc International Finals at Point Mallard Park

DECATUR – The excitement is soaring as Decatur prepares to host the UpDog Challenge Canine Disc International Finals next month.

The event is April 2-6 at Point Mallard Park’s Spirit of America Fields. More than 300 elite human-disc competitors and more than 530 canine-disc competitors from around the world will showcase remarkable skills and teamwork between dogs and their handlers.

The competition will span five days, offering a mix of high-flying performances and precision-based challenges. Teams will compete in a series of disc-related events designed to test speed, agility, and coordination.

“We are thrilled to welcome UpDog competitors and their amazing dogs to Decatur for this prestigious event,” said Emma Martin, communications director at Decatur Morgan County Tourism. “It’s an incredible opportunity for our community to experience world-class canine athleticism and enjoy a weekend filled with excitement at Point Mallard Park.”

Event Schedule:

  • April 2 – Far Out (320 teams) – long distance game and Boom (228 teams) – accuracy game
  • April 3 – Freestyle Performance (60 teams) – disc tricks to music, Time Warp (380 teams) – speed game and Spaced Out (285 teams) – accuracy game
  • April 4 – Freestyle Performance continued (60 teams), Greedy (310 teams) – strategy game and FunKey (205 teams) – agility/disc combo game
  • April 5– Freestyle Criterion Round – top 40-50% of teams from the Performance rounds, Throw N Go (435 teams) – accuracy game and 7UP (190 teams) – agility/disc combo game
  • April 6- Four Way Play (420 teams) – strategy game and Frizgility (330 teams) – agility/disc combo speed game

Canine competitors must display discipline and sportsmanship throughout the event. Any dog exhibiting disruptive or aggressive behavior will be subject to disciplinary action, which may include removal from competition for the remainder of the weekend.

There is no charge for admission; spectators are urged to bring their lawn chairs.

In the interest of safety and out of respect for the canine competitors, UpDog asks that spectators leave their canines at home.
