Watch the video – Grissom High School choir performing alongside Foreigner

HUNTSVILLE – Students in the Grissom High School Choir got the opportunity to perform with the legendary classic rock band Foreigner in front of thousands at a concert last weekend.

Grissom’s choir won the chance to appear and perform with the band after submitting a video performing the group’s hit song “I Want to Know What Love Is.”

“We know we’re blessed with everything we have,” said Grissom High School student Katelyn Engel, a member of the choir. “I’m grateful for all we get to do.”

Foreigner’s bassist and musical director, Jeff Pilson, was thrilled to have the students on stage.

“We get to experience it kind of through their eyes,” Pilson said. “That energy is palpable, and it really makes the show a better experience. I’m hoping that we plant a couple of seeds.”

“Maybe there’s some budding Beyoncés out there, who knows?”

The choir posted on social media about the experience.

“Grissom Choir was ready to rock and roll this past Saturday as they joined Foreigner on stage at the Orion Amphitheater,” read the post. “We are so proud of how our students presented themselves on and off the stage, as well as being troopers as we waited in the muggy heat of August.”

“Thank you to Foreigner, their marketing team, as well as our Grissom Choir parents and friends for supporting our students as they continue to make memories that will last a lifetime!”

At the end of their performance, lead singer Kelly Hansen thanked the students and took the opportunity to promote the need for music and arts within schools across the country. The band donated $500 to the Grissom choir.
