‘Witch’ way to free Halloween events? Huntsville Parks & Rec is treating

HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville Parks & Recreation is kicking off the Halloween weekend with seven no-cost, family-friendly events related to the spookiest holiday of the year tonight  through Halloween.

Tonight

“Fall” into fun at the Optimist Recreation Center at 703 Oakwood Ave. from 6-8 p.m. as kids and adults are invited to satisfy their sweet tooth while creating their own “make-and-take” art project.

Also, get a jump start on your trick-or-treating at Brahan Spring Recreation Center at 3770 Ivy Ave. in Huntsville. The Parks & Rec staff will be handing out candy from 6-8 p.m.

While you’re sorting through all your sweets, visit the Huntsville Parks & Recreation Facebook page to vote for “Best Pumpkin.”

Recreation and community center staff, along with other division employees, are competing for this year’s Cauldron Cup. The pumpkin with the most online votes takes home the prize.

The contest ends just before the stroke of midnight (11:59 p.m.) on Halloween.

Friday

Enter the “haunted hallways” of Cavalry Hill Community Center at 2900 Fairbanks Street from 3-7 p.m.

Daring guests can enjoy the thrills and chills of a guided tour through some frightful fun, plenty of candy and festivities. Parks & Rec is requesting a donation of one canned food item per family as an entrant’s fee, but it is not required. Food will be donated to the Food Bank of North Alabama.

The do the Monster Mash at Mark Russell Recreation Center. Ages 12 and under are invited to trick-or-treat from 6-8 p.m. at the center, 429 Taylor Road in Huntsville. Please bring your own treat bags.

Halloween

As dusk begins to fall, the Dr. Richard Showers, Sr. Recreation Center at 4600 Blue Spring Road will undergo a transformation. From 5-8 p.m., visitors will find a “haunted house” in its place.

For those who prefer less frightful fun, there will be games and other entertainment to enjoy, along with free candy.

At 8 p.m., the seventh-annual Spooktacular HallowFest is the best Halloween party in town.

Huntsville Parks & Recreation partnered with the DazzlinDymes Dance Team, Divas of Royalty, the Huntsville Police Department, Rising Stars Tutoring, S.T.E.P.A.N.-N-Our City, Team Elusive, The Dukes, and 103.1 WEUP to provide candy, entertainment, and fun for all ages.

The Hallowfest is a team effort between the Dr. Robert Shurney Legacy Center and the Lakewood Community Center from 6-8 p.m. at 3610 Kenwood Drive.

There will be free candy, entertainment, and fun for all ages.

Then, add the fall festival at Fern Bell Recreation Center at 107 Sanders Road to your trick-or-treating route. Come for the candy, and stay for the fun and games from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
