Women in Tech//HSV program to empower women in STEM leadership roles

HUNTSVILLE — Speed-date companies that are recruiting female talent. Fast forward businesses and careers through networking. Learn how leadership can institute transformative changes in the community.

These opportunities are front and center Aug. 31 when Women in Technology//HSV presents CareerNAV at the Invention to Innovation Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

CareerNAV is a way to expand WIT//HSV’s mission of empowering women who want to make an impact through technology, leadership and inspiration. The one-day program consists of panel sessions, speed-dating, and networking opportunities that provide an opportunity to connect with inclusive workplaces in a fun, informal way.

WIT//HSV is a community platform focused on Alabama, and aimed at educating, encouraging and empowering women with the necessary expertise and connections to succeed in STEM career fields.

The program opens at 5:30 for networking, followed by two panel discussions at 6 p.m.

The first panel will discuss “Early Career in Tech .” It features a panel of young technology professionals who share insights and stories about how they got their journey started. The discussion targets students and young people early in their careers.

Moderated by Madison Travis, corporate communications coordinator for Intuitive Research & Technology, the panel speakers consist of Morgan Hodgson, principal capture manager at SAIC; Cayla Phillips, business analyst at Accenture Federal Services; Anna Shipman, systems engineer at NASA Marshall; and Intuitive technical artist Liv Weaver.

The second panel discussion is entitled “Female Tech Leadership.” This session focuses on women who have relentlessly pursued their dream and navigated the good and bad of climbing the corporate ladder. For women pursuing leadership and mid-senior career positions, this is a “don’t miss”.

The moderators are Sonia Robinson, chief workforce strategist and CEO of Spur Fractional; and Rashida Wilson, director of Experiential Learning Opportunities at Alabama A&M.

The panel speakers are Kristina Barbee, principal at Booz Allen Hamilton; Kim Lewis, CEO of Project XYZ; Ambrosia Patterson, Huntsville transition and change program manager at the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and Ashley Strickland, executive director of Business Development Operations at CACI.

At 7 p.m., the GigaParts photo booth opens with free headshot sessions and more networking, job speed dating and recruiter meet-and-greet continues.

Food and drinks will be provided during the event. ID’s required for wine and beer.
