Worlds of Work student career expo, evening job fair opens today

HUNTSVILLE – North Alabama’s premier hands-on career expo opens at the Von Braun Center today.

The two-day regional Worlds of Work Career Expo, sponsored by North AlabamaWorks, is primarily for eighth-graders but middle- and high-school students have been invited. The event offers a hands-on, interactive career search experience of high-demand and high-wage careers. It also provides provide businesses and industry the opportunity to connect with their future workforce.

WOW is for public, private, and home-school students across the 13-county Workforce Region 1 – Cobert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Morgan, and Winston counties.

“Worlds” have been identified as potential career pathways to jobs in the region, and each World will provide hands-on demonstrations and interactive experiences by local business and industry to create career awareness. Industries such as construction, cybersecurity/information technology, health care, manufacturing, aerospace, and more will be featured.

Presented by ASmartPlace, a website of the Huntsville-Madison County Chamber, WOW is made possible through the partnership of business and industry, chambers of commerce, economic development agencies, secondary and post-secondary school systems, and career centers.

Additionally, visitors are invited to attend today’s Launch Your Career, a public career fair from 4-7 p.m. in the VBC South Hall. It is provided for high school students, parents, and  the public to talk with business and education representatives about employment and training opportunities.
