Year of Alabama Trails: It’s time to get outdoors

DECATUR – The Alabama Tourism Department has designated 2025 the Year of Alabama Trails, a year-long celebration of the state’s diverse and scenic outdoor trails, and in North Alabama, there are countless opportunities for adventure and exploration.

From breathtaking hiking paths and serene nature walks to thrilling bike routes and peaceful paddling adventures, North Alabama offers an incredible variety of trails that cater to all skill levels.

The Year of Alabama Trails initiative highlights North Alabama’s vast outdoor recreational opportunities while promoting healthy lifestyles. Throughout 2025, residents and visitors alike can participate in special events, guided hikes and community activities designed to showcase the region’s incredible natural landscapes.

“North Alabama is home to some of the most beautiful and diverse trails in the Southeast and the Year of Alabama Trails is a perfect way to showcase them,” said Karen Beasley, vice president of marketing and communications of the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association. “From the rugged paths of the Bankhead National Forest to the scenic greenways along the Tennessee River, this promotion aims to inspire people to get outside, experience the beauty of our region and appreciate the benefits of outdoor recreation.

In addition to outdoor hiking, biking and paddling trails, AMLTA offers 10 themed trails: waterfalls, wine, mural, agriculture adventure, patriot sites, barbecue, craft beer, motorcycle routes, historic churches and train depots.
