From a field of 20 candidates, the Huntsville City Board of Education has named the three finalists to be the new schools superintendent to succeed recently retired Christie Finley.

The finalists are interim Huntsville Schools Superintendent Clarence Sutton, Jermaine Dawson of Birmingham and Bren Elliott of Washington, D.C.

Dawson is chief academic & accountability officer of Birmingham City Schools and Elliot is chief of school improvement & supports of D.C. Public Schools.

The board will interview the finalists Thursday afternoon and will likely vote on the new superintendent at the June 13 school board meeting.
