More Tomahawk missile production is headed to Alabama under a $41.6 million expansion of an existing U.S. Navy contract.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems Defense Research Institute Inc. in Anniston was awarded a $41,571,985 contract modification to produce and deliver 559 warhead cases and 559 fuzewells for the Navy’s U/RGM-109E Tactical Tomahawk missiles.

The modification adds the new production work to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract.

Nearly all of the work, 99%, will be performed in Anniston, with the remaining 1% in Houston, Texas. Production is expected to be completed in April 2028.

The Anniston operation is part of General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and specializes in defense components, tactical missile hardware and military ordnance.

The Tactical Tomahawk is the Navy’s long-range cruise missile, and the Alabama-made WDU-36/B warhead cases and associated fuzewells will become components of 559 missiles.

The full $41.6 million will be obligated at the time of the award using fiscal 2026 Navy weapons procurement funding.

The modification was not competitively awarded.

Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division in China Lake, Calif., is the contracting activity.
