Polls are open in Huntsville as voters in three City Council districts and two Board of Education districts head to the ballot box today.
Voting in the Aug. 25 municipal election runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
City Council seats are on the ballot in Districts 2, 3 and 4, while Huntsville City Schools Board of Education races are being decided in Districts 2 and 3.
“Everything is in place for the municipal election,” City Clerk and Election Official Shaundrika Edwards said. “We encourage everyone to make their voice heard in Districts 2, 3 and 4 and cast a ballot.”
Voting machines were tested last week, and city election officials also met with poll workers in preparation for Election Day.
Who’s on the ballot
In City Council District 2, incumbent David Little faces Thomas Casez.
Three candidates are seeking the District 3 council seat: Liliana Peinder, John Stuart and incumbent Jennie Robinson.
District 4 voters will choose among Nick Frevold, Will Pylant, and incumbent Bill Kling.
For the Huntsville City Schools Board of Education, Holly McCarty and Matt Woolsey are running in District 2, while Robert “Coach P” Person and Payten Redfearn are seeking the District 3 seat.
Ryan Renaud was the only candidate to qualify for the District 4 school board seat and was declared the winner by the City Council in July.
Before you vote
Voters can confirm their registration status and polling location through the Alabama Secretary of State’s voter information system. A voter registration card is not required to cast a ballot.
Sample ballots and a map of Huntsville’s municipal voting precincts are also available through the city.
Spanish-language ballots are available, and voters who need Spanish-speaking assistance at the polls can request an interpreter from a poll worker.
Election results will be updated online in real time after polls close at 7 p.m.
The Huntsville City Council is scheduled to certify the election results during a special session Sept. 1 at noon in the City Hall Council Chamber.
