A ‘mane’ event: UNA’s Big Deal set to take over North Court Street in Florence

(UNA contributed)

FLORENCE – The Big Deal, the largest of the Mane Month events at the University of North Alabama, is set for this week at the North Court and Irvine street intersections in downtown Florence.

This year’s event is set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday and will feature games, entertainment, food,  vendors, and other activities to connect students with the Shoals and UNA communities.

“The Big Deal is truly a staple among the UNA experiences,” said Matthew Jones, director of Student Activities and Leadership Development. “Having gone through many iterations over more than 20 years, this event continues to come back bigger and better each year.

“Students can discover their community, develop lasting connections, and dive into the excitement that makes the Shoals and the UNA campus truly special.”

The event is coordinated through the Center for Student Engagement, and it has become a tradition for students returning to campus or coming to campus for the first time, according to Jones. The Big Deal provides ample opportunities for students to get involved in organizations, to learn about campus resources, and to explore what local vendors have to offer.

The Big Deal is free to UNA students, and, in addition to the opportunity to learn about  organizations and campus-based resources, the event is also packed with games, giveaways, entertainment, and food.

Thursday’s event will feature “Dunk-a-Dean” dunk tank, where students can take a turn trying to dunk one of UNA’s five college deans.
