Ajago’s spark in return not enough for Huntsville City FC

HUNTSVILLE – Foster Ajago returned from injury with a brace – not the medical kind, but two goals for the uninitiated – but it wasn’t enough to give Huntsville City Football Club its first victory of the season Saturday night at Wicks Family Field at Joe Davis Stadium.

A crowd of 4,807 watched as Atlanta United 2 twice built two-goal leads and held on to win 3-2. Huntsville City FC fell to 0-6-3-0. Atlanta improved to 3-5-1-1. Ajago hasn’t played since March 22 when the team played to its second straight draw to open the season.

“First and foremost, the guys worked their socks off, so I’m proud of that, which is the minimum we expect,” HCFC interim head coach Christophe Berra said. “But again, if we don’t take our chances. …”

That has become a familiar refrain from Berra.

The Boys in Blue are passing up chances. He’s said following previous losses, he said it again Saturday night.

Again, he stressed, the team “created numerous chances.” Enough chances, he said, “to win two games.”

Instead, HCFC will hit the road in search of its first 2024 victory when it plays at Orlando City B at 5 p.m. Sunday.  The match can be seen on MLS Season Pass on AppleTV, while Huntsvillians can attend the club’s official watch party at Yellowhammer Brewing.

Tyler Pasnik made his Huntsville City FC and MLS NEXT Pro debut after being added to the roster leading up to the match. Pasnik, from Scotland, grew up playing in the Rangers FC academy, eventually joining the club’s U18 squad in 2021. After finishing up at the academy level, the forward joined Rangers FC B in 2023, making seven appearances in the Scottish Lowland Football League.

Internationally, Pasnik is eligible to play for the United States through his father, with the forward previously spending time in the January 2023 United States U19’s training camp.
