Alabama A&M sweeps weekly SWAC soccer honors

BIRMINGHAM — The Alabama A&M University women’s soccer program swept all four weekly Southwestern Athletic Conference awards, the conference announced.

Czaske Deane received the SWAC Offensive Player of the Week honor, while Daniela Marroquin was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week. Goalkeeper Madelyn Cornwell earned SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while Renee Miller picked up Newcomer of the Week accolades.

Deane played in 155 minutes as Alabama A&M went 1-1 over the week. She scored the opening goal against South Carolina State and registered five shots, including a pair on goal against Presbyterian College and SCSU.

Marroquin helped the Bulldog back line in the two games. She limited the opponents to just one goal in 180 minutes. In addition, she helped secure the shutout win on Sunday at SCSU.

Cornwell surrendered just one goal in 180 minutes. She posted 10 saves and had a 90.9 save percentage over the week.

Miller tacked on the second goal in AAMU’s 3-0 win over South Carolina State. She played in 49 minutes, with her only shot on goal finding the back of the net.

Alabama A&M returns to action Thursday at West Georgia. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (Central Time) and televised on ESPN+.
